I'm Canadian as well, one of the things that always bothered me was what little was available. I travel frequently and bought an unlocked N82 (by far the best phone I've ever owned), and although I can use the phone anywhere and slap in a local pay as you go sim card for whatever country I'm in, it's near impossible to buy sim cards easily in Canada. I bought a Rogers sim card for $50 a few years back (had to ask the Rogers rep, they weren't advertised); pay an activation fee, and then had to add a minimum $20 bucks a month (which expires monthly if you don't keep adding money to it) to get the most basic service of .25/minute. Granted the 20 bucks isn't much, but there's very little available for what you have access to; no picture messaging, no data, etc. I'm currently in the States and using a AT&T sim now, no 3G on my phone (only Edge) but I do have access to everything they offer: data plans, unlimited calling & text messaging, picture messaging (which works great for uploading pics to Facebook btw). And if I'm in Europe there's even more choices available. I was talking to an Australian tourist recently and he was blown away at how difficult it was for him to use his cell in Canada. Anyone else have these problems?

Re: Canadians don't live in igloos!!!

welcome!

I'm from edmonton. i don't use 3G at all because i don't have a data plan. currently i'm just using wifi at home which is sufficient for me.. i'm on fido

Re: Canadians don't live in igloos!!!

David -- are you not getting any data on your N82+Rogers or just not 3G? I've noticed mine mostly reverts to what I took to be EDGE but I'm spending a lot of time in not the most high-income east end neighbourhood -- gather that prioritized 3G coverage is in effect.

So I don't spend much time casually browsing the net, mostly relying on the data for email connections when I'm not at my inbox or trapped in uncivilized WiFi-less locations. That said, I do hop online to look at the occasion site and will tweet, and check out maps. Speed seems alright...

, michael

Re: Canadians don't live in igloos!!!

I have four seasons here also: Summer, summer, summer and summer.
:-)

How I wish there is spring, autumn and winter.
:-(

Re: Canadians don't live in igloos!!!

Hey David,

It's kinda late, but..

Welcome to the Blog!
